Y yo creo que esto es porque, ni a nivel social ni a nivel eclesial, consideramos que la pornografía pueda ser una adicción.
Expectativas
Una vez más, las personas a favor del uso “responsable” de la pornografía argumentarán que es parte del proceso saludable de autodescubrimiento. Además, que esta nos permite saber si realmente podemos sentir atracción por alguien; y usualmente estipulan que la juventud y la pornografía son elementos que “necesitan” estar juntos, pero, eventualmente, tener pareja o llegar a la adultez hará que las personas involucradas puedan superar esa etapa. Pareciera que ver pornografía es una de esas cosas que “hay que hacer al menos una vez en la vida”, y que, por arte de magia, se irá sin más, sin dejar ningún rastro, ni secuelas en la vida de quienes la ven.
Realidad
Debo confesar que me sorprendió encontrar tantos estudios con respecto a la pornografía y la adicción. Uno que me gustaría mencionar en particular es el de Griffiths, M. D titulado “Adicción al sexo en internet: una investigación empírica”. Basándose en la literatura ya existente a la fecha de su investigación (2012), y haciendo un trabajo de campo, Griffiths nos brinda argumentos concluyentes para aquellos que dicen que la pornografía no puede ser considerada una adicción. Algunos de estos son:
- Las personas con adicción al sexo en Internet suelen presentar comportamientos y síntomas similares a los de otros tipos de adicciones, como el abuso de sustancias; algunos estudios incluidos en la revisión indican que la adicción al sexo por Internet puede implicar procesos neurobiológicos similares a los de otras adicciones conductuales, como cambios en la actividad cerebral relacionada con los centros de recompensa y placer.
- Entre las características comunes se encuentran la preocupación por el contenido sexual, la incapacidad de controlar el consumo a pesar de las consecuencias negativas y el uso de las actividades sexuales en línea para escapar de los problemas de la vida real.
- Hay correlaciones significativas entre la adicción al sexo en Internet y problemas de salud mental como la depresión, la ansiedad y la baja autoestima.
- Las personas suelen manifestar sentimientos de culpa, vergüenza y angustia relacionados con su uso compulsivo de contenidos sexuales en línea.

En este punto, debo confesar que dos cosas llamaron poderosamente mi atención. La primera es el proceso interno que lleva el consumidor activo de pornografía. Y es que este estudio no es desarrollado entre cristianos o comunidades religiosas. Sin embargo, la culpa es un elemento común entre quienes consumen pornografía de forma habitual. Y aunque ciertamente es algo que cada día es más socialmente aceptado, lo cierto es que muchas personas siguen lidiando con la culpa que conlleva estar atado a cadenas que no traen libertad.
La segunda cosa que llamó mi atención es el uso de la pornografía para escapar de los problemas de la vida real. Recordando un libro que recomendamos una vez por aquí, el uso de la pornografía solamente es la externalización de un problema interno no resuelto, una vía de escape para sentirse mejor, que al final lo único que hace es perpetuar la culpa y agravar el problema. Justo como cualquier otra adicción.
Una lección que aprendí a las malas, años atrás, es que si nosotros escondemos el pecado debajo de la cama de nuestro corazón, Dios no tendrá problema en exponerlo en las áreas de nuestra vida. Lo que escondamos en nuestras habitaciones, Dios lo expondrá en las azoteas. Pero no porque no nos ame, al contrario, porque Él sabe muy bien que el pecado gana poder en la oscuridad y lo pierde en la luz. Por eso hay que exponerlo, y si no lo hacemos nosotros, Él lo hará sin ningún problema.
Satanás es un experto en marketing, al punto de vendernos la pornografía como algo que puede ser bueno para nuestra vida sexual y nuestras relaciones. Durante los últimos artículos hemos podido ver que es racionalmente todo lo contrario. Por eso, creo que es hora de dejar de escondernos en esas falsas expectativas y traer nuestra adicción a la luz. Sé que puede asustarnos el quedar expuestos, pero, ¡es precisamente por eso que debemos acercarnos a la luz! Hay libertad para quienes confiesan su pecado y lo abandonan. Libertad, una palabra que solo pueden describir quienes alguna vez reconocieron que fueron esclavos.
“Oye desde el cielo, donde habitas; escucha y perdona”. Esta es parte de una hermosa oración de Salomón, en donde él reconoce que Dios está dispuesto a escuchar y a perdonar. Y créanme, Dios es un experto en perdonar. El apóstol Juan diría que si reconocemos ante Dios que hemos pecado, podemos estar seguros de que él, que es justo, nos perdonará y nos limpiará de toda maldad.
